The US constitution gives the federal government explicit, enumerated powers by which they may act. There is no such thing as an "implied power" as much as there is an implied marriage or implied home ownership. The constitution is the contract by which we restrain the government to the will of the people. The people of this nation have created the government, not sought permission from a monarch or dictator for more right to self governance. We, as Minnesotans, are left to decide all matters not expressly written in Article 1 Section 8. Every other matter is ours to determine by our own direction. Notably, the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, & 26th amendments specify additional areas in which our congress may legislate. Washington doesn't know what is best for us in determining our transportation, personal choices, or education. We as a local community, organized under state and local governments can and have the right and responsibility to choose what is best for ourselves. Finally, it is my belief that every law should be written to protect individual liberty as our constitution originally intended. Too much legislation is written and turned into law written that restricts our freedom on the assumption that the government knows better than we do and should have the right to tell us what we can and cannot do with our own lives. This is not only unconstitutional but elitist and should not be tolerated by the people.
